Ron and Lou Doornbos memorial ride
Ron and Lou were an amazing couple full of life and love for each other and for helping others. They were tragically killed in an accident in Phoenix in March of 2018.
They were both passionate about CycleTherapy, truly embracing the team’s motto “Ride for Pleasure, Ride for Purpose”. Over many years they participated in raising funds and supporting many charities, most important to Lou and Ron, was their passion for ARBI and the Harvest Half Marathon. They were tireless individuals who epitomized what it means to be community minded and “other centered”.
Ron and Lou will be truly missed by so many family and friends including the “ARBI family”.
It is in their honor that this ride is dedicated to their memory and to remind us all as Lou would say, “it’s nice when it’s nice”!
CycleTherapy is an amateur cycling club with a heart. Their motto is “Ride for Pleasure, Ride for Purpose”. For the last several years, they have done a fundraising ride from Banff to Lake Louise with proceeds going to ARBI. Since 2012 they have raised more than $150,000 – and last year alone they raised $23,000. This money went directly to the 150 clients and families ARBI saw last year, and had a significant impact on their lives.
The Gran Fondo is 100km ride along the Bow Valley Parkway up to Lake Louise and back. If you wish to complete the Medio Fondo (50km), you may ride to Lake Louise and ride in a support vehicle on the way back. There will be volunteers and support vehicles along the route, encouraging the riders and offering support.
