CycleTherapy – Ride for ARBI: Recap

October 3, 2022 > Events, News

Thanks to our dedicated riders and generous donors for helping us reach new heights for the tenth anniversary of CycleTherapy – Ride for ARBI. We had our largest group of riders this year, with 29 participants including two Virtual Fondo cyclists, logging over 2,000 km!

The in-person ride took place on September 17th along the scenic Bow Valley Parkway just outside of Banff, AB. It was a chilly start to the morning, but what an amazing day it turned out to be! The excitement and passion were evident as the riders pedaled the pathway, with 12 Gran Fondo cyclists completing the 100 km ride and 15 cyclists completing the 50 km Medio Fondo route.

We had four inspiring stroke survivors join the CycleTherapy team including, for the first time,  an ARBI client. Bud is a retired teacher who spent a lot of time outdoors and told ARBI he wanted to return to biking after suffering a stroke early last year. Bud worked hard on his rehabilitation goals and completed the challenging 50 km Medio Fondo on his customized recumbent bike with his wife and friends by his side. We should also mention, Bud accomplished this all just a few months after his 80th birthday! He was smiling and joking the entire time and was glowing as he crossed the finish line—his determination and spirit are a true inspiration. When we told Bud he was our hero, he said “If you want a real hero, look up Trevor Green.”

Even heroes need heroes.

Bud, along with the other 28 CycleTherapy riders, were not only dedicated cyclists but incredible fundraisers and advocates, collectively raising a record-breaking $36,823! Bringing the ten-year CycleTherapy fundraising total to an impressive $327,775 and beating last year’s total by nearly $10,000.

Thank you to our riders and donors for making CycleTherapy’s tenth anniversary, the biggest and best yet! We are truly grateful for your participation and commitment to helping ARBI support survivors of brain injury and stroke. We could not do the work we do without the support of an amazing community around us. The funds raised through this memorable event enable ARBI to provide vital rehabilitation services to our clients, like Bud, helping survivors to reach their goals, rejoin the community, and live fulfilling lives.

On behalf of everyone at ARBI— thank you!
