National Volunteer Week | April 27 – May 3, 2025 

At ARBI, we believe in the power of people to create change and no one does that more beautifully than our volunteers. 

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, “Volunteers Make Waves”, couldn’t be more fitting. We see it every day at ARBI  in the laughter during a therapy session, the quiet confidence of supporting someone regaining a skill, or the meaningful connections made in our wellness programs. Like waves on the shore, the impact might seem gentle at first, but over time, these acts of service shape lives in profound and lasting ways. 

Each week, we witness these generous souls showing up and bringing with them not just time and talent, but heart. Assisting at a walking group, leading a seated exercise class, sharing their passion through art, gardening, or woodworking, or assisting a client with their occupational therapy exercises, they are making waves: big ones, small ones, life-changing ones. 

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. There are students eager to gain hands-on experience and learn from our dedicated team. There are retirees whose skills and wisdom breathe life into our programs and joy into our community, and stroke survivors who share their journey and support others along their own. There are everyday heroes neighbours, friends, family members  answering the inner call to give back. 

Some of their stories are inspired by loved ones who have lived with brain injuries. Others are simply moved by a desire to connect and contribute. Whatever the reason, the result is ripples of hope and healing. 

But the waves don’t stop here. Many of our student volunteers go on to become healthcare professionals, therapists, physicians, and community leaders carrying the spirit of ARBI with them into the world. 

So, to our volunteers: thank you. You are the pulse of this place. Your compassion, dedication, and enthusiasm continue to inspire us every day.
